Our Past Events
The Soda Shop
The Soda Shop anchored by an oversized, open-air diner bar, was our retro-futuristic spin on the classic soda fountain designed to transport guests back in time. Our take on the all-American diner landed just in time to become the ultimate NYC summer hang. Guests sipped custom sodas, slurped old school milkshakes, and dug into diner classics turned delightfully upside-down: a tuna melt, a turkey club, and our very own Burger Dog.
Hedge and Hearth
Hedge and Hearth, centered around a 2,000 square-foot hedge maze, was our playful take on the classic British garden—reimagined with a wink and a twist. Guests wandered through nine-foot-tall walls lined with twinkling lights and old England-style lamp posts, uncovering hidden prizes and cheeky surprises along the way. At the heart of it all? A heated outdoor alcove serving up British-inspired gastropub bites by Chef Frederick Aquino—comfort food with character, and a whole lot of charm.
Daniel Arsham
In celebration of Daniel Arsham’s 20-year partnership with Gallery Perrotin, Arsham returned to The Standard with a new installation at The Plaza. Life-sized, bronze-patinated sculptures of characters from the Pokémon universe appeared throughout the space—each one a time-warped relic inviting reflection on our place in history. Known for blending pop culture with themes of decay and time, Arsham saw The Standard as the perfect backdrop: a hotel alive with the stories of wandering travelers, where his sculptures could spark unexpected moments of connection. A curated collection of Arsham Editions was also available at The Shop.
BUMP!
BUMP!, a bumper car pop-up at The Plaza, was our playful spin on the gritty charm of 1980s punk. The entire space got a rebellious makeover, turning the redesigned plaza into a riot of color, attitude, and nostalgia. Guests buckled in for bumper car rides, crashed into their friends, and fueled up on a menu that mixed comforting classics with fresh, modern twists.
CHANEL N°5 IN THE SNOW
Chanel’s pop-up at The Standard Plaza was a holiday dream wrapped in signature style. Inspired by the 2019 N°5 L’EAU campaign starring Lily-Rose Depp, the space was transformed into a winter wonderland—complete with twinkling Christmas trees, vintage sleighs, skis, and plenty of CHANEL sparkle. Guests sipped hot spiked drinks from a cozy cocoa chalet, ice-skated to holiday tunes, and danced to sets by DJ Kitty Cash. There was even a crafting station for ornament decorating and a CHANEL AR experience that let guests step inside their very own magical snow globe through augmented reality.
The Ice Rink
Every winter, The Plaza transformed into a cozy cold-weather escape, complete with its very own ice rink. Just steps from the ice, guests warmed up in the hotel’s outdoor seating area and indulged in a special winter menu filled with seasonal bites and festive drinks
KAWS
Companion (Passing Through), created by KAWS, also known as Brian Donnelly—touched down at The Standard Plaza after stops in Hong Kong and the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut. The instantly recognizable figure made a bold entrance, sitting front and center with arms over eyes and just the right mix of attitude and vulnerability, welcoming guests with signature KAWS charm.
